ABOUT
A Holobiont is an assemblage of a multitude of different species that together form a new entity. Inspired by the term and the symbiotic eco-system it describes, the chamber jazz trio Holobiont, with Felix Fritsche, Julian Bohn and Johannes Nebel, creates musical landscapes and environments, consisting of a large number of different sounds and voices that unify and form a new, musical whole.
Exploring, deconstructing and reassembling their original compositions through strong, adventurous, intimate and scenic improvisations, the trio still manages to stay together, always expanding the sound while keeping the eco-system intact.
The instrumentation of saxophone(s), piano and acoustic bass encourages each musician to express their individual, creative voice, using a variety of different styles, dynamics and colors, while still being bonded by a shared musical mindset and the storyline of each composition.
Early 2017, UNIT Records released the trio’s debut album “Dawn”. Currently the band is exploring new musical possibilities, working on new repertoire and incorporating new sounds (for example a pipe/church organ).
